The varying effect of natural convection on shear stress rate on cylindrical surfaces

چکیده
In a dynamic weighing gas mass flow measurement, the gas mass flow rate is continuously determined by weighing a gas mass loss from a gas cylinder as a function of time. In this measurement method, the temperature difference between the wall of the gas cylinder and ambient air cannot be avoided. Due to natural convection flow, a shear stress appears on the wall of the cylinder. Because of the dynamic nature of the method, the shear stress rate varies as a function of time during the measurement period. In this paper, the magnitude and effect of the variable shear stress was studied theoretically and experimentally. Obtained results showed good agreement between the theory and experiments. 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Nonlinear analysis of radially functionally graded hyperelastic cylindrical shells with axially-varying thickness and non-uniform pressure loads based on perturbation theory
In this study, nonlinear analysis for thick cylindrical pressure vessels with arbitrary variable thickness made of hyperelastic functionally graded material properties in nearly incompressible state and clamped boundary conditions under non-uniform pressure loading is presented. Thickness and pressure of the shell are considered in axial direction by arbitrary nonlinear profiles. The FG materia...

A mathematical analysis has been carried out for the axial flow of a Bingham plastic fluid, in the Concentric Cylinder Viscometer which consists of a cylindrical sample holder (the cup) and a cylindrical spindle (the bob) coaxial with the cup. The fluid to be tested flows through the annular gap of the cup and the bob system, sheared by the rotation of the inner cylinder, while the outer cy...
متن کاملThe contribution of varying shear stress to the uncertainty in gravimetric gas mass flow measurements
The effect of natural convection on the uncertainty calculation of the MIKES dynamic gravimetric gas mass flow measurement system (DWS) is studied in this paper. The magnitude of the uncertainty component due to varying shear stress rate at the wall of the cylinder is studied theoretically at two different varying temperature models. Based on the obtained results, the contribution of the compon...

متن کاملVibration analysis of a double layer microshell utilizing a modified couple stress theory
In this paper, dynamic modeling of a double layer cylindrical functionally graded (FG) microshell is considered. Modeling is based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT), and the equations of motion are derived using the Hamilton's principle. It assumes that functionally graded length scale parameter changes along the thickness. Generalized differential quadrature method (GDQM) is u...
